If you ever sat through a college-prep lecture in high school, you might have heard the speaker mention that it would substantially increase your chances of attaining a well-paying job. Maybe so. But, never did you here them say, “oh and one other thing, you’ll have to dish out anywhere from 40 to $100,000 to pay for it, the resulting debt will gut your credit score, so you’ll have no purchasing power, and a fraction of the job opportunities we just mentioned will actually exist.” No, that would have been a different lecture entirely.
