“I look at people and I see their faces, and I see just the deep, deep cringing pain that they have about life.
And they want to share that with everybody.
They don’t want to hold it all by themselves.
They want to let it out and share that negativity with everybody else…
…and you definitely should not have these people in your life.”
Energy Vampires
Well, my friends, today I want to talk to you about something that I hope you don’t have anything to do with. They are what I call energy vampires. These are the people in this world that have absolutely no productivity in their life whatsoever. And they spend their entire life to tear everybody else down and keep everybody else from being productive.
Yes, we all have them. I think most of us have them somewhere. They can be family members, they can be bosses, they can be employees, and they can be spouses. But these are the people in your life that will do everything they possibly can to squash your dreams, water down your desires, and pull you back into the bucket and try to keep you just an average person in any way they can.
There’s the story about the guy who took a bunch of crabs and put them in a bucket with no top. And even though the crabs were very capable of climbing out of the bucket, none of them ever got out of the bucket. If one would try to climb out, the others would grab him and pull him back in.
And you know the story is a good one for trying to discuss the concept of energy vampires because there’s people out there in this world that just do not want to do what it takes to become successful. And they will do everything they possibly can to keep you from becoming successful.
Negative Nelly
Now, energy vampires come in many different breeds. One of them is the Negative Nelly. You know we’ve all heard of a Negative Nelly—just everything is negative. “The sky is falling. The sky is falling. The sky is falling. This is a rip off. This is a rip off. This is a scam. This is a scam. You can’t trust that person. You can’t trust that person. You’ll never get ahead. You’ll never get ahead.” Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
They find the worst in everybody, in everything. And they’re constantly trying to bum you out and neg you out so that you won’t even take the time nor bother to try to become successful.
Negative Nelly is out there everywhere. And they’re characterized by a personality of just total sadness. It’s almost sad. I shouldn’t say sadness. But when I meet these people, I have to say to myself, “My gosh, I could not live like you.”
I look at people and I see their faces, and I see just the deep, deep cringing pain that they have about life. And they want to share that with everybody. They don’t want to hold it all by themselves. They want to let it out and share that negativity with everybody else.
Blamers
There are so many different types of energy vampires. Let’s go down the list here. I don’t have them written down. I’m just trying to think about them off the top of my head. But one is the blamer. Oh, my gosh, have you ever met a blamer? Have you ever met an individual that when absolutely everything goes wrong it’s somebody else’s fault?
How about somebody who’s in a position of leadership that’s like that? You think how does a person get there in leadership? Here’s what they do. They hire people that are intelligent and know what they’re supposed to do to get the job done.
And when the person in any way, shape, or form contradicts the boss, goes against the boss’s theories or in any way, shape, or form tries to take control to make something happen, the boss will shut them down, will belittle them, will take away their power.
You see if they were to use that power and that knowledge, they would become successful, and the boss could not stand it. And if they became successful, it wouldn’t be the boss’s success. And at the same time if they fail—because the boss puts them in a no-win situation—every time the person fails the boss is able to blame it on somebody else.
Now, in addition to that what happens is the boss is able to build his own self-confidence and ego. And they get to the point where they say, “You see? Nothing ever works unless I do it. Unless I take control and make it happen, nothing ever works.”
But really this is just a part of the entire energy vampire cycle of “destroy everybody else so that you look good.” It’s the win/lose mentality in life. “For me to win, somebody else has to lose.” Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
Compulsive Liars
I know another one, how about the liar, how about the compulsive liar. Have you ever met the person that no matter what, they have to tell a little white lie with everything? They couldn’t tell you just the facts. The facts would never do. They could never tell you the story or own up to the truth. They have to create the little white lie.
In fact, the little white lie always has to grow into the medium-size white lie and then to the grandiose white lie, because there’s no way you can continue to maintain the lie when the facts come out. So what you do is you maintain the lie as long as you possibility can, and you start creating little stories. You try to move it sideways. You try to deflect it and change it into something it isn’t.
And then ultimately then you blame it on somebody else. It always ends up being somebody else’s fault. Again, when you look at it, it’s right back to this point, which is we have another one of the energy vampires.
My friends, the point I’m making to you—and I could go down this list for probably quite a while, but I think it’s more important to get to the point, which is: You don’t need these people in your life, you don’t want these people in your life, and you definitely should not have these people in your life.
